Summary:

Amidst the nascent Republic of China, a tale unravels in an isolated hamlet known to its inhabitants as Safety Valley. Here, the shadows of antiquated beliefs loom large over its denizens, particularly over its womenfolk, who are often subjugated under the harsh yoke of patriarchal doctrines.

Defying the current of time, a pair rejuvenated by the philosophies of the West return to their humble place of origin, Safety Valley, with a vision to sow the seeds of progressive thought and refurbish the fabric of their community. However, their aspirations quickly become entangled in the entrenched struggle between the resilient vestiges of the past and the emerging ideals of modernity.

Their determination is further tested when they are swept into the chilling undertow of a sinister crime involving a so-called ghost bride – an enigma shrouded in the silent whispers of murder and abduction. At the heart of this mystery lies an assembly of women, long stifled by the tyrannical grip of influential men.
